It is not often that you could hear a pin drop in a store the size of Roger Dunn, Santa Ana. Actually it has been about 2 years since the last time all activity has come to a stop. No one hitting in the 8 hitting bays, the 4 fitting centers – empty, the repair center – cleared out. Were we closed? No, there were a good hundred customers in the store. Everyone, and I mean everyone, were found huddled in groups around the store looking up at the tvs. The silence and then the roar.
Whether you hate him or love him, there is no denying that he is still the most polarizing figure in golf. To be able to bring one of the largest volume golf stores in the world to a standstill is power (and it wasn’t even a major). When he plays sales go up(not so much the last 2 years),store traffic goes up, and excitement for the game goes up.

Welcome back Tiger.

The Real Deal.

If you are looking for a 3 wood, the numbers off the new Nike VRII Limited fairway wood are outstanding. It is launching a bit lower than a 15* normally does with a low spin rate but is carrying further – on average 8 to 15 yards and a total distance gain of 13 to 23 yards. My tests have been on fairly high swing speeds for a fairway wood 93 – 105 mph (we only have stiffs in stock). The 75 gram Mitsubishi A’hina shaft has stayed with the swings even on the high end of the scale. My final test subject was Bobby Grich (baseball) and he ended up buying both the driver and 3 wood.

There will be more testing when the softer shafts come in, and new driver testing as more companies release their new models. For now it is safe to say that this 3 wood is the real deal.
